Interview with Jason Cohen, founder of Unifier Festival

by Saphir Lewis

.jason bio shot from illuminationUnifier Festival is coming up soon, in Western Mass. Its a deeper, more intentional gathering than most and one you won’t want to miss. Founder Jason Cohen has an exciting story to tell, and one you will want to be part of…I spoke with him on May 22, 2016. [Read full coverage & photos of the festival here]

Saphir – Hi Jason, tell me a little about your own history, that led you to establish Unifier.

Jason – Well, I’m a musician foremost and I was always fascinated with improvisational music that gave me the ability to check out of my head and go into a flowing trance state on the piano. That’s where I started to find my unique voice as a musician. Then I began to have a romantic connection to the accordion before I ever played it. Something about being able to play outdoors, I was a little envious of guitar players that could play around fires or out in the woods and eventually I picked up an accordion and started playing trance music. An Interview with Tulku, founder of Enchanted Forest Gathering

We all love a good festival: The spirit of community, freedom of expression and the juiciness of endless dancing to incredible music. There is something that happens to us at festivals that leaves a deep imprint within us. We experience a sense of openness, connectivity and community that we may not have tapped into before and that we yearn to experience again, each time festival season comes around.

Journalist and videographer at Festival Fire, Vaidehi Amair sat down to chat with Tulku D’Etat, Enchanted Forest Gathering’s producer and founder… to talk about how this very magic happens at his event. Although they talked about many topics, it all boiled down to this: Community is the magic that takes place at Enchanted Forest and it is the people who make it what it is.

THE INSPIRATIONAL SEED

Vaidehi:  What events took place in your life that led you to start a freakin festival?

Tulku: I can remember the very moment that I decided to produce festivals. [Read more…]

Reinhabiting the Village: Interview Series 3 of 7

by Saphir Lewis

‘Beyond the Festival‘
Interview with Jamaica Stevens (3 of 7)

Our pace is quickening! Can you feel it? As we celebrate passing the $6000 milestone, we tune into the vision shared by Jamaica in this part 3 of 7 interview series about what comes after the festival. Also, how can we leverage the energy, the time, the labor, and the resources that are currently arriving in the service to festivals to be in service of the village, of a legacy for our children’s future? Really good questions that we are actively working on!

Want to hear more? We will share the next update when we pass the $7000 mark. Hopefully, that will be as soon as tomorrow!

by Saphir Lewis

‘Our Turn at the Steering Wheel‘
Interview with Jamaica Stevens (2 of 7)

We are doing a little happy dance this morning, in celebration of three things. 1. We honor and thank our 100th backer, a big shout out to Collin Murphy! 2. We just went over the $5,000 mark, WOOT… WE ARE DOING IT! and 3. It’s Our Turn Behind the Wheel… that’s right. The generation of movers and shakers who are coming together around this project are standing up and claiming their full creative potential, not letting old stories or wounds be obstacles to our dreams. We are calling out to all others who are ready to stand with us! Look out world, here we come!

Part 3 of this interview series with Jamaica Stevens will be released when we reach the $6000 mark, so help us get there and you’ll hear from her sooner 🙂

‘Belonging to a People and a Place‘
Interview with Jamaica Stevens (1 of 7)

A big and hearty THANK YOU! In celebration of reaching the $4,000 mark, we are happy to share this first part of an interview with ReInhabiting the Village visionary, Jamaica Stevens. This video will help you to understand the central mission, and deepest inspiration, of the project — offering the remembrance of Belonging to a People and a Place. We believe this simple and profound intention is a great antidote to the separation and disenchantment that many experience in these interesting times we are living in. We trust that those of you who have backed this project have done so because you feel the deep importance of this message. Stay tuned, as we will continue to release 6 more sessions of this interview as the campaign continues. Much gratitude and love for your continued support.

A TRANSFORMATIONAL FESTIVAL refers to cultural transformation or the re-invention of humanity on earth. These are not your ordinary music events. We are building a culture of caring – for each other, ourselves, our neighbors, our planet. These gatherings are collaborative open-sourced villages, devoted to experimentation and inspired co-creation of the world we want to live in. And we believe that YOU, that everyone, has gifts to bring to the table!

FESTIVAL FIRE is here to nourish that dream.
