We are the More Carrot Camp at Burning Man. We offer a FARMERS MARKET and gift fresh fruit and vegetables on the playa. Back for our 5th year providing nutritious, mostly locally-grown produce to the citizens of Black Rock City.
We are all about maintaining the link between food production and consumption even in the middle of the Black Rock Desert, ensuring nutritious produce is available for free to the citizens of Black Rock City and promoting a culture of gifting, leave no trace, communal effort and healthy eating!
Our fresh fruit and vegetables are sourced in Reno plus many food gifts brought to us by our brethren on the playa (home-made granola, small-batch salsa made from garden-fresh ingredients, small jars of honey and fresh veggies and fruit brought to the playa from people’s gardens). We also provide a roving farmer’s market on bike that goes out once a day, sometimes more.
Picture this :
The heat is finally too much so you slowly open one eye, take a look around and realize you’re nowhere near your camp. As you sit up, that dry cotton mouth feeling we all know so well starts to set in. You’ve spent the last 12 hours dancing the night away with new found friends and yesterday braving the dust storm riding around the playa. You need a nutritious cold beverage stat! Where will you find such a beverage? The Black Rock Farmers Market of course!
Come & visit More Carrots at the Black Rock Farmers Market located in the French Quarter Village! Usually placed between A & B or as they call it this year, Antioch and Basra.
If you’ve been to the playa, you may know us through our Countless Carrots March held the same day and place…… and in protest to >> the Billion Bunny March!! (All in good fun. All in good fun.)
“Where ever the Bunny March went, they always ended at the Esplanade on their way to the MAN and usually by that time the Bunnies were joined by legions of Carrots marching alongside and in carrot cars, orange roots carrying signs protesting the bunnies, always complaining about something, pleading not to be eaten, but MY are they DELISH!”
Which carrot costume would you rather see our head carrot in??
What is your best tip for this years #burners to assist them in ensuring that what they bring to the playa doesn’t become MOOP (Matter out of Place)??
Chris Ocker Remove as much extra packaging as you can before going to the playa. Decrease your moop potential before you get Home Love you Farmers Market!
Jessie Newburn Great point! One of the things we aim to do when we pick up our fresh produce to bring to the playa is to demoop as much of it as possible before heading out. Thanks for the suggestion … and the love!
Why have a farmers market in the Black Rock Desert?
Because if you’re going to expose your body to playa dust, baking hot sun, extreme acts of creativity and very little sleep you’ll need your nutrients!
Imagine, it’s 8am, you’re dusty, miles from your camp, parched and hankering for a slice of freshness… juicy watermelon, tangy plums, frozen grapes, a crunchy carrot or a sweet cob of corn; where do you turn when your cooler looks like slush– the Black Rock Farmers Market of course!
Over just four years the Black Rock Farmers Market has become a much-loved part of the fabric of Black Rock City. But it costs a lot to bring a truck full of fresh produce to the middle of the desert, keep it cold, then prepare and serve it, not to mention create the groovy swag our supporters know and love, and we’re just a camp of humble farmers… so please contribute so we can continue our mission to gift generously of healthy produce during the week of Burning Man.
Come See Us!
The Black Rock Farmers Market is based at the French Quarter and is open 8-10am-ish Tuesday-Friday of Burning Man, with a possible pop-up market on Saturday. During this time you’ll find a bunch of happy mostly orange-clad farmers enthusiastically plying you with delicious produce. We source our produce in Reno, with the majority being organic-grown locally in Nevada, and supporting local agriculture is important to us.
In addition to the produce stall the market features a bike-powered smoothy maker so we’ll be whipping up creative fruit cocktails all morning. There will also be performers and music to keep you entertained while you wait and a shaded lounge area to relax and enjoy your breakfast.
And with your support we will surprise you with a couple of “pop-up” markets in the Souk around the Man this year. Imagine a sunrise viewing from the Man and then, as you turn towards home, parched and famished, you discover the Black Rock Market Mobile Edition there in the shade of one of the souk structures, and you rest a while and enjoy an apple of almost preta-natural freshness and succulence. Sounds good doesn’t it? Help us make it happen by supporting this campaign!
Most importantly of all we help ensure that more residents of Black Rock City get the vitamins and nutrients you need to stay healthy while making art and having fun in the middle of the desert.
We are also looking for circus performers (jugglers, stilt walkers, magicians, etc) and musicians to entertain at the Farmers Market. And if you are a camp that makes something on-playa (bakery, tea room, etc) or just have some yummy edibles to gift, we invite you to come and be part of the Farmers Market! BYO rug/stall, if you’re interested just get in touch with us via our facebook page. – https://www.facebook.com/MoreCarrot.BRC.FarmersMarket
Express your carrot pride with a Keep Calm and Carrot On t-shirt, which you can pick up via our camp crowdfunding campaign. Not only will you have the best t-shirt of anyone you know, you’ll be helping us continue to gift fresh fruit and vegetables to burners in need on the playa.

Hey guys, one of the things you definitely, 100%, no-exceptions need at Burning Man is your own mug. The drinks are gifted, the containers are BYO. And preferably you’d have one with a lid, to keep the dust out, and if it was hot and cold insulated that would be pretty great for carrying hot tea or cool cocktails from one camp to another, and if it also had a carabiner for a handle so you could easily attach it to your belt or bag that would really make it the perfect playa cup. Well you’re never going to believe this but our awesome More Carrot-branded cup for 2014 has all those attributes! You can grab yours via our crowdfunding campaign, either on its own or as part of our PLAYA SURVIVAL PACK package:
Please support our camp through our crowdfunding campaign, www.startsomegood.com/morecarrot14. We bring veggies, produce and wholesome goodness to the playa. Ten dollars for a quick and simple donation. Thirty-five for a fantastic “Keep Calm and Carrot On” T-shirt and $150 for “SEEDS OF SEDUCTION: A sexy sexy collection of only the most sensual fruit and vegetables such as strawberries, melons and kiwifruit. Perfect for that special playa date… Comes with a bottle of COLD champagne! Also with 2 x patches and beautiful handmade soap (so you can freshen up for your big date).” 🙂
Hope to see you on the playa. Tue-Fri, 8-10 am. And beyond.
